These XL wafers are crafted from our XL murrine, which undergo a unique process developed by Tabitha Burrill at Tabitha’s Glass Emporium. Unlike regular murrine, these XL murrine are pulled to larger dimensions, ranging from 10-18mm in diameter. Following their extraction from the vitrigraph kiln, they undergo a meticulous 4-hour annealing process. Subsequently, they are transformed into XL wafers measuring anywhere from 15mm to 30mm.
This innovative method enables us to create intricate murrine patterns reminiscent of millefiori at an exceptionally competitive price point.
These wafers are sandblasted to remove kiln wash and thin fire residues which is why they are dull, and they require a refiring to restore their shine at a processing temperatures not exceeding 730°C or 1345°F to maintain their thinness.
All our XL wafers are meticulously crafted from Oceanside Glass with a 96COE . They are available for purchase in wafer-thin slices, conveniently packaged in 25g bags, which is just under 1oz.
Keep in mind that our murrine slices are drawn from various parts of the pull, resulting in unique pieces. Some may feature less pattern, which is how we keep our prices competitive and uphold our commitment to minimizing waste and environmental impact at TGE. Join us in making a positive contribution to our planet while creating something extraordinary from every aspect of the pull.
